.308 reloading dies

RCBS...

I've had mine for about thirty years, used for thousands of rounds and still going strong. Of course like anything else you need to take care of them.

Best .308 winchester dies at a reasonable price

What?s Reasonable? $30?

Check out the Custom Grade New Dimension die set from Hornady. Just got one for my 30/06. The Full Length Sizing die yields straighter cases (total indicated runout) than with my Forster Bench Rest F/L die. The seater die is a sliding sleeve design that seated the bullets precisely and again, finished cartridge was as "straight" as can be. The whole set cost me less than a single Forster BR Seater Die.

One thing for certain, read the instructions. Hornady states plainly to lube the sizing die itself before the first use. Ignore at your own peril.

I love my Forster .308 dies. Only thing I would have done differently is get the micrometer seater die.

I would check natchez shooters supply and midsouth and see what their prices are.I also like the forster dies as well.

I use a Lee Collet sizer, and Forster Micrometer seater all the time, I also have an Forster bushing bump and a body die that I use when I think my brass needs a little extra.

Forster Benchrest die uses same floating chamber as the Ultra seater w/micrometer head. Forster does make a Natl Match die body and a standard .308 die body (floating chamber).

I use Redding FL Type S bushing die for sizing and Forster seaters for all rifle ammunition I'm seeking best accuracy from. The Type S FL die can also serve as a Body Die w/o bushing or decap assy. FL die can be adjusted or used with a shim-pack to neck size only. More versatile than a neck only sizer.

Lee collet die is also highly regarded. I'm loading ammunition to function in several rifles, both bolt and semi-auto so setup my loads to function in all the rifles I load for.

Forster sells die bodies, floating chambers in various sizes, seating stems by caliber and other ancillary parts by mail. Once you own one Benchrest or Ultra seater you can pay $35 or so for die body & seat stem for ctgs like .243/260/7mm-08, .22-250, and others that use the same size die chamber. This allows you to swap body & seater w/o paying $80 or $50 each time you want a new seater. Redding does not sell their die body parts.

I use a Dillon 550b with my dies, and Redding Ultra-mag with universal deprime die. Heavy single stage press makes FL resizing of magnum ctgs way easier. If your loading to obtain best precision w/o regard to your time invested, might look at Wilson bushing sizer and micro seater which are arbor press or hand press dies.

good luck!

Don't overlook the Custom Grade New Dimension Seating dies from Hornady. One die will seat bullets in just about every cartridge that uses the same bullet diameter. The "sliding chamber" just moves farther with the longer cases.

Recent cartridges I've loaded with mine have yielded consistent TIR's of Less than .001", Both .308 and 30-06 using the same die.

Bayou shooter: I think "perfect" is very hard to do in reloading. My finished rounds runout now are 0.001 so not sure how I could improve that.

Shoulders bumped .0005 and runout .0000. Loaded cartridge base to ogive .0000 variance. That's how.
