Went shoot-n with my friend, he ran in the store grabbed 8 different boxes of 308win. To try out in his new Daniel Defense Delta 5 pro. ..i have no clue how much all that ammo cost i didnt even ask..
We were looking at what he punched and by mistake he grabbed a box of 308 marlin express
Or 308MX i looked at the box and said WTF are these..hahaha..
Boy was he pissed hahahaha..it was funny.

All ammo, primers, powder, sales final no returns accepted ( check what is in your hands)
Big old poster board sign at check out counter
Hahahaha...you know i had to bust balls all day

Any way its a cool looking pc of brass
Some one has to wildcat this cartridge i though as i looked at it.
What could be done with it, is it worth it or is the creedmore a better case design
With 51 gr case capacity its just small enough that it caught my attention.
That isnt much less then the 308win @ 56gr case capacity..
To my understanding Marlin developed the case for lever actions. chambered one rifle in it, and it died out fast..
That was 2007..the same year guess what else came out..6.5 creedmore 2007.
Talk about sudden death of a cartridges
That must have sucked to work at Marlin that year.

Who is playing with this cartridge still, what can ya tell us about it?

That is what i suggested to him this morning..its really not a big deal just a hassle..
Some one here probably has one

The .308 Marlin Express is a potent lever-action rifle cartridge, developed by Marlin Firearms and Hornady in 2007, designed to match .308 Winchester ballistics in traditional lever guns by using Hornady's FTX (Flex Tip eXpanding) bullets, allowing for safe use in tubular magazines while providing superior accuracy and power for medium game like deer and bear. It's a rimmed, bottleneck case based on the .307 Winchester, delivering high velocities (around 2600+ fps with 160gr bullets) for enhanced range and terminal performance beyond typical lever rounds.

Key Features & Performance:

  • Bullet Technology: Features pointed FTX bullets with a soft polymer tip, unlike traditional flat-nose bullets, improving aerodynamics and ballistic coefficient.
  • Magazine Safety: The Flex Tip design compresses on impact, making it safe for tubular magazines, a common feature in lever actions.
  • Ballistics: Offers significantly more energy and velocity than older lever-action cartridges, often exceeding 2,500 ft-lbs of energy at the muzzle.
  • Game Suitability: Excellent for deer, antelope, and black bear, extending effective ranges for lever-action rifles.
  • Parent Case: Derived from the .307 Winchester, a rimmed cartridge.
Why It Was Developed:

  • To bridge the performance gap between modern bolt-action rifles and classic lever-action rifles.
  • To provide lever-gun enthusiasts with modern ballistic performance and accuracy without sacrificing the tubular magazine's capacity and safety.
In essence, the .308 Marlin Express revolutionized lever-action performance, offering modern-day power and range in a classic firearm platform, largely thanks to Hornady's innovative FTX bullet technology.
