.308 in 1-14tw

Any one care to share what bullets they use in a 1-14tw barrel? I am planning on a 20"tube so 1k is out of the question, 300 to 400 is what I am looking for. Target and hunting bullets, she will be used for some pig thinning on occasion, mostly paper punching though.

I had a 1 in 14 twist at 24" long in my 308Win and it handled my 155 & 165 BT's out to 300yds .
Never tried anything else because it shot so well with these. But the 125 & 135 gr bullets should work also. I shot only 2 and 300 yd matches with this combination, because it bucked wind better than the 125 & 135 at those ranges.
Hope this helps.

BCB, thanks, that I what I needed to hear :) 165 is what I want to hunt with, 150 for paper punching to 300. I just was not too sure of the 165 stabilizing.

Glenn, it's the length bullet not the weight. Check out the JBM site, they have a stability program. That said, I'll bet you could get some pretty good velocity with the Nosler 125 gr. BT. I shoot it in my 12tw .30-30AI and will run it in my 15tw 7.62X39 chambered barrel when I screw it on. Very accurate bullet! You will most likely do well with Benchmark or 3031 with the light bullets and abbreviated barrel length.

Sierra's 165SGKs in both HP and SP are less than $30/100 at Midway. I'd buy a box and load them up and see how they shoot. There is no substitute for real world testing. Loaded over 43.* Varget in LC brass they both shot sub MOA from my 12 tw Remington Varmint.

For Hogs I've read somewhere that the HP has a heavier jacket than the SP so that may be your answer. (I'd confirm that)

A stock barrel you may not like the 150s, mine didn't. The freebore in the stock barrel was cut so long I couldn't reach the lands with the bullet still in the brass at all. I blame the super long jump for the accuracy problems, YMMV.

MrMajestic, thanks, the shooter AP is on my phone and I think it is the coolest thing since the invention of smokeless powder ;D when my rifle is finally built I am without a doubt gonna try lots of bullets! 125 to 165, and I will keep the 165 short. Thanks guys ;D

I hope you understand that the length of the "bullet" means the projectile and not the cartridge. If you didn't you do now. It's not something you can change, they just come that way.
