308 FTR 28" barrel length

Im currently getting my first FTR rifle put together and it will have a custom heavy profile 28" Brux barrel to make weight.

My question is will I still be able to get the Berger 200.20x fast enough to shoot at 1000yds? From various things ive read on the forum guys are pushing them around 2620 to 2650? And some even abit higher. I have Lap Palma brass, CCI 450 and Rem 7 1/2 primers and Varget.

Thanks for any info

plenty long. 2610-2660 worked for me with 200 bergers

20X's @ 2610 from a previous barrel (28" Krieger HV). 2590-ish from current barrel (28" Bartlein HV). The extra 50 fps isn't enough to sacrifice accuracy over.

Have you considered the Berger Juggernauts? I have a friend shooting FTR and he is just cleaning up with them.
The 200gr ones he said just did not perform as well especially at 700+ yds as velocity just could not keep up and shooting bigger “rainbows”, the 185’s just flatter shooting at better velocity.

the jugs are excellent out to 800 in my experience

The Juggernauts are easier to get to shoot well, no doubt. But any of the 200s will shoot *inside* them in the wind, period - unless you run the 185s up to stupid (i.e. unsafe) speeds. And you're shooting on flat KD ranges - nobody cares about flatter trajectory. It ain't *that* much flatter - few MOA at distance, if that. It comes down to whether you can find good lot(s) of 200s, and whether you can tune them in.

I know two shooters that I consider pretty damn good that said 'screw it' and sold off all their 200.20Xs and went back to the 185s. I haven't been watching that closely the last few years, and AFAIK the big F-class matches don't really report on things like 'what bullet weights are used in FTR', but if I had to guess, I'd say it's probably 95+% 200(+) gn bullets.

Thanks everyone for your replies, some great info for me. As this is my first FTR rifle I do have a swag of 185 Juggs to start with to learn all the rifle handling etc

Then was planning on moving up to the 200's afterwards.

Aim straight…. Shoot small…

Mid- Range ( 600 ) 185 Jugg Target are your best friend . At 1,000 , if you have excellent low wind conditions , the 185's will be workable , but you will be giving up a little against those shooting 200's , whether it's the Hybrids , or the 20x .
