308 Chamber Dimensions

Is there an easy way to determine the dimensions of a chamber? I have a Savage Model 10 and want to get the best accuracy possible by knowing the size of the chamber and getting the correct bushing size for the neck. I will be using Salt Lake City brass.

Actually, the bushing size is determined by the wall thickness of the case neck. Any ammo you fire will expand to your chamber’s neck. A thinner neck will require a smaller bushing to get he same amount of neck tension.

While there is a specification for factory necks in loaded ammunition, different manufacturers will exhibit different thicknesses, usually erring on the side of a little loose. You really need to fire a round in your rifle, and see what size bushing will resize the case neck to arrive at your desired neck tension.
