308 bullet dimensions??

Anyone know of a listing of 308 bullet dimensions? Specifically I’m looking for a deer bullet under 165g that is going to run .035” or shorter than a 165 Hornady SST from the ogive to the tip. My comparator says the distance from the ogive to tip on the 165g SST is around .620”. So I’d like a 30 cal bullet, other than a round nose, that measures less than .585” from ogive to tip.

Thanks,
Bill

I don't know about the measurements that you want but if you want a drop them in their tracks deer bullet use the 125 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip at around 3000 fps. I have been experimenting with different bullets in my 308 for a few years now and have found that 46 grs. IMR 4895 pushing a 125 ballistic tip down the bore of my 22 inch Heart barrel Rem. 700 has dropped 10 deer in a row in their tracks with broad side front shoulder shots. The same shot with 150 Sierra, Horandy 150's, Sierra 165's I have had about 50% of the time the deer run 30 to 50 yards before they go down. Just for the heck of it I am going to try a 155 Berger VLD next deer season.

2506, I was thinking earlier this season that with the extra speed the 125g Nosler BT may be a great dead on the spot 308 PA deer bullet. And after reading your posts it’ll be one of the 2 or 3 bullets that get load tested, regardless of the jump. But I'd like to find another 1 or 2 bullets that have tempting terminal performance and can fit into a 700SA mag,2.840") while still just touching the lands. That’s why I’m looking for something with an ogive to tip measurement of .585” or less. The 2 deer I shot this year using a 308 & 165g SSTs just didn't die fast enough for my liking. Both made me wish I was using the 35 Whelen instead.
