308 brass to 243

Was wanting to know how big a job it would be.Cant I just run the 308 brass through a 243 fl length sizing die then trim to length.Am I on the right track with this??Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks!!

That will work but you will need to check your neck thickness after doing so to make sure they will chamber in your rifle. Make a couple and check them against some factory 243's

Thanks I thought I could but had not tried it yet.But had not thought about neck thickness being a problem.Have you done this yourself?

I have in the past and they shot just as good as regular 243 brass. I did it just to see if I could and it worked for me. Just start low with the powder charge incase the internal volume is different.

Thanks again I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions.I am having a hard time finding brass for my 243 but can usally find it for 308. And its cheaper. So I think I will try it.

....Save yourself some grief , order 243 brass either online or from somewhere if it's not available local... Saying that "It will work" is not saying it will get you the best results unless you have means to inside neck ream or else first turn the necks while at .30 cal or else etc etc..

Going from .30 to .24 could be done much easier if you had either a .260 rem die or a 7-08 to do the transition. I understand where you're coming from though , sometimes "any port in a storm" is what you have on your plate.

That sounds reasonable.I did think that it would be easier to do that with 7mm-08 brass. But it is harder to find. Using a 7mm-08 die first does make sence.I had forgot about the 260.Thanks for the advice that will give me another way to go if it dnt work out for me.

Do you have a case trimmer that you can utilize inside neck reamers with?... Chances are you're going to have some thick necks that will most likely cause you fits if you're dragging them over an expander once you get to the .24 stage..

I did it years ago when stuff was scarce so I bought a forster neck reamer and made it fit the rcbs trimmer. If I hadn't done this step the necks would have been too thick and possibly dangerous with a minimum spec chamber.
