.308 Bergers ??

Hi ,am putting together a FTR Rifle 30/31 " barrel using;
Bergers either, 168 g Hybrid or 185 g Hydrid Bullets ,
Up to 1000yds .
which powders and what sort of volicitys

comments would be greatful please,

185's can go 2800 or so depending on your barrel. I think everyone uses Varget.

I can't comment on the 168's - Haven't shot them, but I suspect that you should get 2900 - 2925 at the top end.

I shoot the 185 Hybrids with Varget. I'm getting 2660 from a 28" barrel. I am not pushing hard and could add at least another grain of powder before pressure started showing, but I like the performance I'm getting without stressing my components. You'd be very happy with the 185's I believe!

I basically asked the same question about two weeks ago and was advised to use the 185BT Long Range Bergers!

I did and they are awesome!

Check the below link out including the link to "www.riflemansjournal.com" that's in one of the replies. Information in the link will answer all your questions. I finally after 3 hours I got tierd of reading, but it's the most informative site I have ever visited mainly based on the 308 caliper. I will revist the site as soon as I have time!

The link I refered to above is in the replies, author=German Salazar. Do yourself a favor and visit the site. I learned more about a 308 in 3 hours Sunday morning than I have in a year!

Also, it seems the norm is 'Moly" coating your bullet. It looks like most long range shooters use moly including some of my friends! I found this area very interesting along with many more!

Let me know if you have any questions.

I shoot a 30" Shilen select match in 1:10" twist. I recently changed to the 168 gr Hybrids set .020 jump, Lapua brass with 43.2 gr RL15 powder, BR2 primers and get 2800 fps with no sign of pressure. According to JBM ballistics (whose numbers match my actual results in drop), I still have 1476 fps at 1000 yds. The hybrids made this setup a whole new experience! One note, I do all my shooting at 4400' to 5000' elevation. The load data is for info only--you need to work up what works.
