How does the bottom half of the block attach to the stock? Is there more of a "chassis" system around it?

There is a structural 1" x 3/8" aluminum bar recesed into the botton of the stock. The block is bolted to this. I will post some more pics of the bottom of the stock tomorrow.

Here you can see how the construction is done. 4 screws hold the barrel block down and the other 3 attach the aluminum bar to the stock with helicoil inserts.

Beautiful work. I recently made a steel stocked barrel block rifle. I found that the block pulled too much heat from the barrel and caused a shift in impact when the barrel warmed up.. I eventually relieved the barrel and installed a asbestos type gasket between the barrel and block.I am happy with the rifle now and shoot it with complete confidence.

I read one of your posts concerning this and for that reason and also to help damp vibration I have a phenolic sleeve between the barrel and the aluminum block.

I love the buttonheads,I use them just for the look. Are they industrial buttonheads out of curiosity,if they are not then go to mcmaster carr and get hardened stainless ones for good prices. I love how you blended the stock with the metal.

does it MAKE weight???

looks to me, it weighs about 20 lbs.

other than that - it looks great.

Ha! you hit the nail on the head! with the bipod it is 19lbs. The adjustable butt has a lot of room for weight reduction . I also am going to remake some of the bipod using carbon fiber. I can also remove a bunch of material from the barrel block itself. If it still doesn't make weight I have a piece of magnesium I can make the barrel block with, it is 40% lighter than 6061 so that would save about 6oz.

Very Nice! Awesome work!
Is the action bolted and bedded as well? Or is it free floated?

Everything is free floated except where the barrel contacts the block.

What bullet are you planning to shoot?

8208 with 155's is super.

I chambered it with a reamer recomended by PTG specifically for the Berger 155.5 fullbore bullet.

I have a lot of testing to do with powders but mainly I am going to start off by looking at IMR 4320, RL15 and 2000MR

Lazy, Very pretty, Nice Build, I have a walnut stock and I am a fan of barrel blocks. I am in the thought process of building one simular to yours in 6br. I was thinking of epoxying the bottom block to the stock, this way the stock would regain its rigidity, after cutting in such a gash. Does this sound feasable ?
