308 at 1000yd question

I have a Remington 700 blueprinted action, jewel trigger, and have a question about my 308 barrel.

Broughton SS, 1x10 twist, 22".

Will the 22" barrel be a hindrance to shoot in F-class at a 1000 yards. Just curious if anyone has tried a similar scenario

175gr SMK
Have a Nightforce 8x32 NSX on a 20 degree rail.

As mentioned... you're going to be at somewhat of a velocity handicap w/ the stubby barrel. Some people claim to get some impressive velocities from good quality custom barrels in the 22-24" range, so it may not be *that* bad. I'm more and more convinced that 30",on a .308) is more for sight radius,Palma/TR rifles) than it is for muzzle velocity.

That said, you can easily shoot out to 600 just fine with what you have. Not everyone has a 1k range right around the corner, and even then there are usually way more 500/600yd ranges than 800/900/1000yd ranges. You can get an awful lot of good shooting in at 'only' 600yds.... 'specially if it is one w/ some twisty winds ;)

I shoot a stock 308 Rem PSS factory 1-12 barrel using 175 SMK's at 2650 fps. Using this rig I shot a 461 4x my first time shooting F class so I think you could be somewhat competitive with the rig you described. If you were building a dedicated F class gun then I would go longer on the barrel.
