303 enfield

nastynatesfish

A day which we will live in infamy
I want to do some loading for my #2 m4 rifle. Got dies and some herters brass. Gonna try some 308 190s till I can get some 174-180 .311bullets. Looking at powder to use? I ordered an 8lb jug of h4895. Wondering what is the commonrun powder? See 3031,4064...not going to use varget I have wc842, wondering on it since I can use it I 308 with147-150class easy then I could burn the h4895 in ny223s.

174 gr match king with 41.7gr to 42gr of Vit N140 gives 2440ft/sec aprox which almost matches the sight marks.
But work up load as usual.
Do you also mean a No4 mk2??

Yes that's what I meant lol. Don't have any vito powder. Ordered the h4895. Might pick some 4064 up to try also. Need to find a decent spot to order bullets. I don't really want to shoot match bullets

I've had better luck with 4064 than 4895 in my 303s. You can try the 190s but .311 bullets will likely shoot better. With 4895 start wit 37 grains. One other thing, consider it an accurate rifle if it shoots a 2 inch group. Don't expect MOA from a 303.

There's some good articles online about dealing with possible excess headspace at the rim and controlling it by controlling the bump of the shoulder.

Ya I've read about the reloading/brass prep. I never crank on my brass. I loaded for my old 8mm Mauser before. I'd like to find info on the wc842??? I just got the h4895 since it's a good versatile powder for a lot of stuff. Love it in 308. Have some 3031 and 4064 local. Yes I'm not expecting 1/2" open site groups lol. Just the actual Ammo is hard to find local got less than 25 a box for privi stuff. I've got some just to build brass up. I just want to have 2-300 rounds loaded for it. I'm gonna try the .308 bullets until I can hopefully find some pills or a sale on the 311 pills somewhere

LOL

303's ruled the roost for decades in 1000+ yds way before the days of F class.

When they ruled the roost in 1000 yard shooting the targets were bigger than MOA. I used to shoot a 303 at 1000 when I lived inCanada.

My comment still stands

It was the rifle not the round. Use a 303 Mk7 round in a modern rifle and see what happens. I still shoot the 303 as well as some others.

It is amazing how a good set up will almost always give good results.

I had a #4 rifle with typical "excessive" (by commercial standards) headspace. Since it was the only .303 I owned, I just neck sized the brass and thereafter effectively headspaced on the shoulder. It wasn't like I was shooting it in serious competition or anything.
