.300wsm with berger hybrids

just ordered a .300 wsm reamer from PTG. .334 nk and throated for 210-230 berger bullets. anyone have any experience with the 230 berger hybrids out of a 1-10 twist .300wsm?

I don't think the WSM case has enough HP to drive the 230's to their potenial. You may be able to get it to 2700-2750 maybe?I've shot the 215 hybrids at 2800 and they shot pretty darn good(except for one weekend where it was 100deg w/90%humidity,LOL).

Here is my cartridge to power the 230 Hybrid. Barrel and Dies are done, just waiting on my brass shipment to get out there testing. This is a picture of my dummy round with a window cut to test seating depth.

Updated to add a photo of the 308 Winchester, 30-338 Win Mag and 300 SKADI from left to right.

is that your own spec'd cartridge? it looks like it has a longer neck than a .300 wsm

It's a modified 300 Norma Magnum that I started work on last summer that is now ready for testing after waiting on reamers, dies, brass, barrel and bolt to handle .585" rim diameter to be made.

I changed the shoulder angle from 21 degrees to 40 degrees, pushed the shoulder back and it is shortened from its original case length to 2.450" and cartridge OAL with the 230 Berger is 3.375". The case design was done to be able form brass without fire forming.

300 Skadi case capacity is 92.4 grains H20 comparable to a 300 Win Mag which has 84.7 grains H20 with the Berger 230 seated long. The difference is the 300 Skadi has a COAL of 3.375" vs the 300 Win Mag with the 230 seated long at 3.775 COAL.

interesting. what kind of performance are you getting?

My shooting stock of brass is in the process of being neck turned since it recently came in from Norma. At this point all I have is Quick Load Data until I get out to the range in December for field testing. QL is estimating a velocity of 2965 fps at 55,988 PSI peak pressure using Hodgdon Retumbo. Based on the QL estimates, I will be testing Retumbo, H1000, N165, N170 and RL50. My goal is to find the accuracy node in the 2900's which is good with a .743 BC bullet. There are powders which will let it run over 3000 fps according to QL estimates.

Regarding the 300 WSM, with the 230 seated out to a COAL of 3.225" , there is 72.8 grains H20 Capacity which is less than my 30/338 Win Mag. I have tested the 230 Berger in my 30/338 Win Mag and was getting velocities of 2825 fps using N165.
