300wsm or 300win mag for the 230gr hybirds

Got a new heavy barrel that will finish out at 28.5-29" . I want to play with the 230s for fun but accuracy it most important! Mag length is not is not a issue. Also what reamer,brass and load that worked well for you. Thanks all P.s. Not a fclass rig

My wsm will push the 215 to 2900 in 27" but is hard on brass. I run them at 2800. I would use a lager case for the 230. I think Joe Salt was getting 2900+ with the 230 in a wsm, but my barrel wouldnt.

Out of my Lilja 30" barrel chambered in a 300 WM I can push the 230's at 2805 accurately. I've heard of others getting 50-75 fps more but I just can't I start wrecking brass.

30-375 Ruger, or 30 Nosler (made from 28 Nosler brass).

Both fit in the same action as the 300 Win Mag. Both cases are actually a little shorter than the 300 WM, but both will push that 230gr a good bit faster due to increased case capacity from wider body designs with minimal taper.

If you throat a WSM out to .280 freebore and use 7828 SSC you can run them 3000. Matt

My wsm reamer is .270 fb .
Kev you should try them in a 300 Rum . should be up around 3000 fps or more.

I did 3 identical 300 wsms on single point trued rem 700 long actions for some customers. .280 fb, 28" brux rem varm barrels, bc stock skim bedded, with slabbed 4 port "muscle" brakes. All 3 guns shot 65.5 gr of h4831sc, norma brass, 230s and Russian primers under half moa at 950 yds off the bipod. Velocity was a little over 2700 fps. The loads were mild but shot lights out.

I have my own reamer and have my gunsmith throat for whatever bullet. The 230 is long and you need it moved out or you can't get enough powder in. You will probably have to use a drop tube to get the 7828 SSC in. Matt

I'll keep using a drop tube because until I prove different my .226 throat seems to work just fine.

Kev No problem, Other than taking a little more space up in the case, I've seen bullet stuck way down in the case and still shot great. But you are going to have to try some IMR-7828SSC I think thats going to be the go- to powder. I think you will be able to push the 215 over 3000 fps!

.235 freebore with the 208's Amax's up too the 230 bergers.
No problem getting the 215 begers up over 3000FPS with a 28" barrel.
