300wsm deer/black bear perferred hunting load

recently acquired a 300wsm in trade for some custom wood work. its remington 700 with 25inch barrel Jewell trigger, metal bottom metal, the action and barrel into a series 'g" receiver Remington bdl stock with inset action lugs. opened up barrel channel floated barrel, set clearance on timney bottom safety trigger. Now to save time and rounds what would be some good loads for deer and black bear out to 400 yds.

Depends on the twist. If it is 11 twist i would use 190 Berger and if a 10 twist i would use 210 Berger. I would use VLD hunting because they open up easier. H 4350 is a great powder. I would start at 60 grains and go up in 1/2 grain increments till you see where you can go to. You will probably come in under 62 grains. This all depends upon Barrel. Most all the long range match shooters are shooting H4350. 4007SSC is also a good powder. Look it up in Berger loading manual. Matt

Deer & bear with a 30cal magnum? 180gr SST, Game King or similar so you get controlled expansion and penetration without a detonation.

Everything I ever shot with Bergers have had exit holes even as far as 1396 yards. its been a good bullet for the 308 Baer to 338 Lapua Improved.

With a limit of 400 yards I would skip the VLDs unless you already have them a 180 NBT with H-4350 and if you want a tougher bullet a 180 NAB. Most often you can shoot either to the same POI. If H-4350 doesn't work R-22 should, if neither one works you could have a problem.

180 accubonds and IMR 4831 has worked very well in a little model 7 that I had.
Magazine length wouldn't let me use Bergers, but if you had the room, I sure would try them out.

+1 for the 180 accubond to put any North American game down!

I tried the Berger hunting bullets a few years back and my conclusion is if you shoot your game under 200 yards with high velocity (6.5 06 on deer) they would punch a tiny hole right though and I lost game but at longer ranges they slowed down enough to drop the animal. When i loaded the accubonds 4 years ago nothing has went more than 50 feet with a well placed shot

Just my 2 cents
