300 WSM twist rate advise

Hi Guys,
What twist rate would you choose for a precision 1,000 yard rifle build in 300 WSM if you wanted to concentrate on bullet weights in the 155 - 175gr Range? I were thinking a 30" bartlein or Kreiger to maximise velocity & a 1-13" twist looks suitable for up to 175gr SMK.

Shooting a WSM you can shoot a lot heavier than 175s. Most F-TR shooters are shooting something heavier than that from their 308s. If you want to stick in your stated weight range then you'll be fine with an 1:11.25 to a 1:12, but if you want to run heavies, and if you want to shoot to 1000 I think you will then you should probably get a 1:10.

+1 on XTRs comment. I just went to an 11" twist in a .308 and it shoots 155 Palmas and 185 Juggernauts extremely well.

I like the 11 twist 5R and a 210 grain Berger or JLK, I've had 10 twist barrels too but from now on an 11 is choice for me

I shoot 7mm heavies in a 7mm STW with a 30" barrel and would highly recommend 1:9 twist for the 175's

Edited: Uhhh sorry I missed the title 300 not 7mm.....I've got 7mm on the brain :)

Unless the rules dictate which bullet weight you need to shoot, I would skip any bullet weight starting with a "one"!!! I would start with the Berger 200 Grain Hybrid and end with the 230 hybrid with Amaxes and Seirras in the mix. 1-10 twist. If your main objective is "fast as possible" go with a bigger case. If it were me , I would start with "as accurate as possable"!!

Right now my two most accurate 1K loads are my LG with the 200 Hybrid and my HG with the 215 Hybrid. H4350 and Fed 210 match primers.

I think it is already said best above. Long Range is all about the heavy bullets (with High BC). a 1:10 should do just fine.

10" twist and the highest B.C. bullets you can find. Attached are the results from 2012 Arizona State LR championship. Steve Shaw was shooting his .300 WSM with 10" twist and 215 Berger Hybrids at 3050 fps. Note that his Day 1 599-33X is a Ben Avery F-Open record, as it would be almost anywhere. Steve was shooting a full ring or more inside my .284 Shehane, which itself is no slouch by any standard. His results speak for themselves.
