300 WSM Savage question

Is the Savage 300WSM built on a long or short action? Also are these large shank or small? Rounding up parts to build one and want to make sure I'm tracking down the right parts...
I found a complete used Savage 300WSM, what looked like a stainless 12 VLP but the guy at Cabelas could not find the key to the case when I went back this weekend it had been sold,... dang it!

I just bought my son in law a 270 WSM Savage 11 iirc / it’s a short action I don’t recall the shank

I was thinking that the short magnums were built on the short actions but were large shank barrels.

Correct, all short action. Early production models,some had small shank- all current and late production use large shank

My 12 BVSS .300 WSM was a short action, large shank.

If you're unsure of the shank size, there is an easy way to tell. Large shank barrel nuts are shorter, around .630 and small shank barrel nuts are around .885.

my wsm action is large shank and controlled round fed not sure if the newer ones are still crf or not, The crf makes it pretty hard to eject a long loaded unfired round out the ejection port

Short action, large shank. I have an unfired Savage factory barrel in 300WSM in my cabinet gathering dust as I bought the gun as a donor for a WSM wildcat...

Everyone I am aware of is a short action Large shank. There are both CRF and push feed with current production being push feed.
