300 WSM Long Action Hunting/Target Bullet Choice

So about to start a long action 300WSM build and need to pick a bullet/bullets to set the free bore I am wanting. I am thinking 200-210 grain. Will be using a 1-10 twist. Any thoughts or experiences? Or even a recommendation on freebore for a long action.

I can’t say definitely, but I think the Berger 215 is popular for target competition.

200-215 weight bullets. You may not be able to use the same bullet for both hunting and target. I had one setup for target with 215 bergers with 0.23 freebore. Monos for hunting may take more but they are loaded 0.06 off.
If you aren't sure, seat the shank of the possible choices 3/4 down in the neck and consult with the reamer maker. Freebore will increase with round count.

210 berger vld hunters make a good mix of both target and hunting. Ive heard the 215 hybrids do well too. Never used them for hunting. I did shoot a deer at 579 yrds with the 208 long range hybrid and it seemed satisfactory. But not quite as good as the hunting vld

Itll depend on your altitude and coldest intended temps as to whether or not a 10 tw would work with 215's. If you have a 10 tw I would personally go with the 205 elite hunter. Theyre stupid accurate .040-.060 off the lands. Buddy's wife 10 ringed a ewe aoudad at 1020 yds with 205's in a wsm I built him. It took a couple steps and fell over. Ive used the 205s on deer at closer ranges and it leaves a really nice hole in em. Hellen Keller could follow the blood trails.

Got the action, and 24” Benchmark CF barrel are on the way. Have an adequate supply of H4350, 4831SC, and N560. One of those powders should work… Oh and some 205 Elite's headed this way also..
