300 wsm 175gr vld?

Anyone tried the 175gr vld in the 300 wsm? Im looking for a good load for whitetails out of my savage model 12. It loves 180 accubonds but im afraid those may be a little tough for whitetails.

Those Berger bullets are long and must be seated deeply to work in a factory magazine. Try the Nosler Part. in 150-165 for a superb deer load. The 130 Barnes TTSX (3400-3500fps) are dynamite on whitetails at reasonable ranges. I don't like the AB line as well as the Part. style. Slow the Ballistic Tip to about 3100 and it is superb on deer (150-165).

If you can find them the Nosler / Winchester Combined technology bullets are excellent bullets for your application. Wboggs is correct that the VLD will probably not perform well seated at mag length. The combined technology come in 150, 168, and 180gr. If you're goal is whitetail under 400yds then go with 150 if you're thinking of shooting over 400 then the heavier bullets might be the way to go. I have already seen one deer shot with the 168gr out of a 300WSM this season and it was DRT. Shot was only 265yds, but the deer never took another step. Shot was in the pocket behind the front shoulders and was a clean pass through. Quarter size hole going in silver dollar sized hole coming out.

Good luck on your hunt.

If you do decide to load a few and test them please report back on how they do for you.

Agree, the combined tech will work well. Try them for accuracy and pick the most accurate one.

I use a 190 vld in wsm and even at mag length it will bug hole them with the right brass/primer/powder combo............try them, you might be surprised.

I use the 210 vlds in mine. Over RL22 they cloverleaf at 100. I shot a adult fallow deer with it the first year I had it and the internal damage was massive! That same year I took a very large WI whitetail buck. Shot him head on in the brisket from 40 yards. There was nothing but liquid inside him. Both of these shots left very little meat damage though.
