300 WM resized to Weatherby calibers

The only thing you could make out of 300 Win mag would be the 7mm, 270 and 257 Weatherby casses.

My question is...Why??

I don't think that that is quite accurate... Unless I am mistaken, the ONLY cartridge you can make is the .257. The others you mentioned are in fact true magnum length cartridges. The .240 is a .473boltface... So the other question you asked is right on the money>>>WHY??? I agree 100+ pct..

The only difference between the Weatherbys - 257; 270; & 7mm is the the neck diameter. Same basic case. These can also be formed from 264Win magnum and 7mm Rem magnum.

Have you check the price of Weatherby Brass lately.

Gary how much shorter do they usually come out?

The 257, 270, and 7mm Weatherby brass are pretty much identical within a couple thou in length. The case length on a 7mm wby case is only .07 longer than the 7mm rem mag....2.50 vs 2.57 inches. But that won't matter. They (the 257, 270, and 7mm) are all shorter than the 300 win mag, and all could be shortened and formed using the belt to do the headspacing off of.
The 300 and 340 wby cases are LONGER than the 300 win mag... 2.65 vs 2.85 inches. They all fit the same magnum bolt face... .532"

But, it all goes back to...why??

As I said in an early'er post price, 257, 270, and 7mm WBY Brass $3.00 + each 300 WM and 7mm REM less than $1.00 a piece, I was also concerned that the 7MM Rem being shorter, there might buildup a ring after time, and not be able to cycle the longer WBY Brass.

If you keep an eye on predator masters it comes up for sale fairly often at reasonable prices.

Price...I get it. So, use 7mm rem mag cases. They are plentyfull and cheap. It would be way easier than using 300 win mag brass...they would need to be shortened considerably.

As far as case length of the wby case...the only dimension you need to worry about is if the finished case is to LONG. To long is a problem. To short is not. And, as discussed, the rem brass is .07 shorter. The wby necks are all way long anyway, so a little shorter neck is not a problem. And, for the ff process, let the belt be your friend. This is where you will headspace off of. Plenty safe!!

I won the IBS 1000 yard nationals two years ago with Dasher brass that I accidentally trimmed WAY, WAY to short....like "how could I be so stupid" kind of short. I know...measure twice and cut once!! :-[ :-[

So...use 7mm rem mag brass instead of 300 win mag. Your life will be lots easier!!!

Good luck,

Tod

PS..if you access to an annealing machine, this would be a good time to use it. if not, I can do it for you.

That pretty much sums it up thanks Tod,
Jon thanks for the heads up on predator masters,
and everyone else who brought light to this,

Dean
