.300 win mag

i have heard that headspacing off the case mouth on a .300 win gives better accuracy then off the belt. if that is so--my Hart barrel is headspaced off the belt, what can i do?

Cole: I briefly loaded for a friend who had a 300 Win. Mag at the time, so my experience is limited. I used the Stoney Point overall length gauge and took measurements from the base of the case to the datum reference point on the shoulder, recorded that length, and adjusted the full-length sizing die for a .002" shorter length, in effect, pushing the shoulder back a minimum amount. He still had slight resistance when closing the bolt, the brass lasted for 5 to 7 loadings, no problems what-so-ever. In effect I ignored the belt, as if it were a beltless case. If you let the case stretch to fill up the chamber, front to back, I believe it's no different than loading any other case.

Redding Competition Shell holder Set do just what was described by fdshuster they come as a set and you get +.002 inch, +.004inch, +.006inch, +.008inch, and +.010 inch thicker than normal shellhoders and give that slight resistance when closing the bolt once you pick the right one. starting with +10 and working your way down and don’t forget to re-adjust your die when going down to the next size shell holder. I use them on my 300 win mag in conjunction with a Redding body die and gives very good results.
