.300 win mag OAL

Hello I am in the process of laoding up some 300win mag bullets with the 180gr barnes x-bullet.What I am looking for is the over all length of the loaded bullet.I am shooting a standard production Remington 700 nothing special just an over the counter gun.

Thank you for your help..................Doug

My m700 magazine allows a cartridge overall length,c.o.l.) of 3.600", to reside in the magazine. Reloading manuals call for a c.o.l. of 3.340". With the Remington, with their longer magazine, you can go longer c.o.l., as long as the bullet doesn't come in contact with the lands, rifling) in the barrel. With my barrel, my Nosler bullets reach the lands at 3.545", which is shorter than the magazine, I seat to 3.525", for a 0.020" jump to the lands.

It really depends on your chamber and/or magazine, how long you can seat the bullets. If you go too long, with a "full house load", you could develop excessive pressure.
