just wondering if anyone tried this and what to expect ?

I have a Remington 700 Sendero that will get a new barrel soon, I have a new Krieger 30cal barrel LV and was thinking about a second barrel in another caliber.

since I also shoot 6mmBR I was wondering what would happen if I necked down the 300 win mag case for the 6mm bullets and got a 6mm barrel for my rem 700.

80gr of N140 behind 95gr Nosler... anyone with quickload to see what will happen ?

Considering about how long the barrel will last in that 6mm/300 Win Mag, I would be wanting to stock up on barrels for it ..

I guess the speed of the bullet will be awesome, but I'm wondering about pressure and if the bullet can balance at that speed.

if it's possible to put those numbers in quickload I would appreciate it since I don't have quickload.

Speed will be high but i doubt you would see much higher speed than 6-284.
Im no expert on wildcatting but i cant see this chambering offering anything but high costs and lots of frustration.
Not to mention custom dies and reamers that wont come cheap.

Btw will there be anything left of the already short neck on the 300 win after necking it to 6mm? ;D

It has been done before. Way over bore, your Barrel life will be less than 400 rounds. A 6mm/.284, 6mm/06, is still over bore and you are looking at 600-900 rounds of barrel life. I have taken many deer with a .243 Win, 6mm Remington, 6mm/.284., none knew the difference. Any 6mm shooting 3000-3800 fps with 85-108 grain bullet will work. I like the 90 Swift Shirocco, but the Nosler Partition and Accubond, and Barnes XXX are great bullets. I have found other bullets that shoot well but are poor performers on deer sized game. For varmints they are a different story. I personally like a through and through controlled expansion bullet. Some prefer a fast expanding bullet for head or lung shots. I don't believe head or neck shots are a good choice. The great thing about 6mms are their accuracy.

it was just a thought, wanted to try it on 1000yrds target and see how it compared with the 230gr hybrid from Berger.. same load but half the bulletsize.

guess I could do a second barrel in 30BR, even though it's a long action..

6mm .300 mag, wow! One nice thing about that is you will probably never have to clean the barrel, you'll just have to change it after a trip to the range. :o
I can't say enough good things about the 230 hybrid Berger. They are not finicky like a VLD and I was able to get sub 1/2 moa groups in a 300 win mag at 600 yds in my first trip to the range with them. Just excellent!

When I lived in Lewistown, Pa we had a gunsmith, Alex Hoyer barrel up a 30-50BMG and he shot that rifle out his back porch across the Juniata River. The story was that as he perched the rifle on the railing on the outside of the porch the recoil blew him back 6 feet to the wall of the house. You may be trying the same thing.

doc,
While i haven't tried the 155s yet, i currently shoot 140gr Berger Hunting VLDs. My accuracy load runs 3441fps with ES in low teens and zero pressure. I'm using 83grains of US-869 in winchester brass to do it. They are loaded to mag length and feed very well. I dubbed the round the 6.5 Voodoo, because the ballistics are "black magic" . Barrel life, i don't expect it to be very long, as i'm pushing over 80grains of powder down a 6.5mm bore! i doubt it will go over 500rounds max.
Don't mind questions at all! i also have a write up about the caliber here:

http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f19/6-5mm-voodoo-unveiled-69499/

I also shoot 6.5x47 lapua in a "tactical" rig and for practice, i use the 6.5 voodoo for 1000+ and long range hunting. I also have .308 win being built for F-T/R and a 300 ackley barrel for the F-T/R gun in case a hurricane is predicted for match day and i still want to shoot!

You might look at the 243 WSSM, the bolt face would work. You could get another bolt and have a 6BR set up that rifle. If it were me I would go with the new bolt, barrel and change back and forth or just get second rifle for 6BR.
