300 Win Mag Load Development Help

Brand new to reloading. Have all the appropriate equipment to start with after researching and talking with a few experienced folks. Looking to develop a hunting load for a 300 win mag with anywhere from 180-200g bullets. Gun is a Remington sendero 26in barrel. I’ve got plenty of H1000 and Retumbo on hand with some Lapua brass otw. The gun really used to like factory loaded barnes ttsx 180 grain so if anyone has any inquiries about a load for that particular round it would be nice but I’m open to all suggestions! Thanks!

Hopefully you have a couple of the factory rds, would be a help for seating depth if you choose to load some of the Barnes. Or get some CBTO numbers.

I loaded for a friend's 300 WM a couple months ago RL23, 185 Bergers and Fed 215 primers produced great results.
Unless you got the appropriate freebore I wouldnt go over 185's.
H1000 showed promise but I couldn't get enough in the case before it got erratic when I started crunching powder.
V555 maybe a good one too.
P.M me if you want some help on my data .

What oal does your magazine allow. If you need to stay at saami oal, a lot of the target bullets will be too far into the case.

zackray,

You may wish to consider a lighter bullet and faster powder. The Sierra 165 GK with VV N-550 powder is very effective on deer and pigs here in GA an AL. My pig hunting buddies tell me that load will lift the front end of a 200 lb. pig off the ground, if properly placed. Slower powders and heavier bullets will just increase muzzle flash and recoil.

If you're hunting hogzilla, other options may apply.

Last year I was working with a friends 300WM to sort out flier issues he was having. He thought it had around 800 rounds through it, Douglass barrel. He said he had started with the 180s, and had dropped to the 165s. I went directly to the 168 Amaxs.

Peterson cases
CCI magnum primers
70.4 grains of H4831SC
Pretty sure spec’d COAL

Pretty much a hammer load in his rifle. The fliers issue was mixed headstamp brass, which I threw away…

Noslers load of H=1000 with a 180 AB has worked well in several of our Win Mags

Agree with the IMR-4350 posters and 180’s. I have used 150’s and 165’s with good success with IMR-4350..

In 300 Win Mag, the combination of 215 Berger Hybrid/H1000 has been a proven combination for about a decade. It is very tough to beat. Based on the components you have on hand, you are already well on your way to loading that combination.

The following cartridge guide is biased toward long range shooting and hunting, but I believe it would be a helpful place for you to start:

I have had good results with Retumbo and MagPro. My last load was a 200 grain Sierra GameKing.
