300 win mag hunting rifle

For hunting elk only a couple of times a year. weight is no a concern if 6.5-8.5 lbs, prefer a synthetic stock. What is available is savage 111 long range, Xbolt, tikka, winchester, 700. They are all around a $grand. I know little about production rifles, want accuracy.

Shop owner can sell anything but is leaning towards the savage, having had good experience with accuracy. What is your personal experience with a savage 111 in 300 mag? or any of the others better?

I have been seriously looking at the new Tikka T3x and almost bought one today....until I found out the mag length is only 3.4". Depending on the bullets you want to shoot, this may still be a great option for you and would be my first choice. I don't own a Tikka yet, but have not read a bad review - most rave about the accuracy and smooth operation. Best price I found today on the T3x .300 Win mag was $580 for blued, $675 for stainless + $30 shipping.

Savage are pretty accurate, too, usually.

Looked at tikka, already have one in 223 and a 308 compact. Nice trigger, smooth action. I did want a muzzle brake and a bit more weight with the 300 caliber. Even looked at a BAR but was told not as accurate!!! You are correct on the prices, 111 was 900 and change

Remmy 700 is a Great rig.
You should be able to get a SS 700 BDL or detachable mag for around $600 toss the plastic stock away and get the stock you like.
180 nosler AB over a stout load of H1000. My son and the lad down the road both shoot these.......I shudder to think of how many elk they have stacked up with 'em.
Solid, accurate, dependable, Plenty of after market gadgets....what's not to like?

Am leaning towards the browning told them to look for the 28 nosler model (limited production) which is the caliber I wanted but can't find in my area. If not hells canyon in 300 is #2 on my list.

I was able to see a Steyr pro hunter, nice rifle, with reputable accuracy and quality for reasonable prices. Steyr is a forgotten performer in the hunting rifle world.

The days of any major manufacturer producing consistently poor-shooting rifles are thankfully over (knock on wood). Pick a gun that you like. Dollars to donuts it'll shoot better than necessary to cleanly kill your intended quarry at any realistic range.

Are you limiting your search to your local stores only? I have bought many fire arms via the internet.. I have a friend with an FFL who I have them shipped to.. Usually cheaper or easier to find what I am looking for. Or occassionally if I cannot find what I am looking for I have a dealer local who I have order it if his quote is in the ball park..

I personally love savages, but hate their
synthetic stock. If you want to customize it I would go savage. If you just want to use as is going Browning or Tika, in no particular order. all will shot with right load or ammo. I dont care for stock Remington, if customized they are great just not my personal favorite.Steyer are accurate but have strange recoil, only gun ever to hit me with scope, lol, in 270 of a friends 2 times in row,and I'm not recoil shy have owned and shot multiple 300wm, one of my favorite cal.

Tikka is what I would choose because I already have handfuls of Savages !

Most accurate Budget rifle I've come across is the Winchester XPR. It's ugly but it effin shoots !
