.300 Win.mag/H4831sc

Hodgdon lists the max load as 73 grs. of H-4831 in Win. brass.I am loading Lapua brass which seems to hold 2 grs. more water. Can the charge be increased safely because of the increased volumn of the lapua brass?Plus I seat the bullet longer than 3.34",3.375")so that gives more space.I have shot 78 grs. with no visible pressure signs and good brass life.My rifle has a 25" Hart barrel with a minimum SAAMI chamber. The load clocks at 3085 fps.Am I skating on thin ice?Quick Load shows around 60,000 psi. What do you think?
Thank you,
Jimmy

How's the bolt lift? What does the primer look like? How much case expansion is there in the web of the case?,I'm not sure you can measure this on a belted case). Is the accuracy good or poor?

If the accuracy is good and the bolt lift is normal and the primer is not exceptionally flat, or the primer pocket is not opened up so that a new primer is loose, I would think you are OK. Each rifle is different so each develops the pressure curve a little differently. Different bullets weighing the same develop pressure different also.

So the answer to your question is "maybe".

I run my 300 Win Mag with Lapua brass and using Lapua 185 Sencars load 75 grns of ADI2213sc which is the same powder and have absolutly no problems but like all things increase in small increments and watch for pressure signs.

cheers
