300 Win Mag barrel twist rate?

Hi, looking at building a long range hunting rifle. I have found during my research is that people are using 10,11 and 11.25 twist barrel. Factory barrel are generally 11 twist and I have tested mind with 208 A Max and it seems to stablelised. My bullet weight of choice will be 200 gr and above. Would 10 twist encounter pressure earlier then a 11 twist. Will 11 twist stablelise my choice of bullets (200gr to 230gr)? Please advice. Thank you.

What sort of velocity can I expect for 26" barrel with 208 gr A Max? H1000 or Retumbo powder? Thanks!

So I gather the 11 twist might not be able to stablelised 200gr and up weight of bullets? I just want to make sure. Thanks.

Go with 10" twist. I have the same in my Sendero factory barrel and it stabilizes everything up to 230gr. - tested myself during years...

For a .300 WM that's intended use is LRH should have a. 1-10 twist barrel on it. You will end up shooting a bullet over 200 grains, more then likely 215-230. I had a long-range .300 rum that Pac-Nor chambered, it was throated for the 240 SMK. It was a 1-10 twist, it was a hammer at just over a mile.

How far do you plan on shooting????? IMHO I think that is the most important part in making the choice

The 208 will stabilize fine with an 11 twist but when going "great distance" over 1200 yards they wont stay as stable. I have always like my 10 twists but I will be personally switching too 9 twists in the future.

Thanks for the advice so far, much appreciated. Intend to shoot beyon 1,000 yards to say 1,500 yards. 10 twist ,looks to be the one!

Using an unfamiliar caliber, doesn't even know what twist rate to use for common 30 cal bullets or how fast he can make them go, but gonna go hunting animals out to 1500 yards...

I'm sorry, shouldn't have said anything, but this stuff always hits a nerve with me...

Sir, sorry to have annoyed you. We shoot steel gong most of the time, has been doing so for quite a while now. We have used 260, 6.5x55,308,6.5GAP 4 S, 284, 300WSM and 338 Lapua Magnum. We practice a lot on steel to make sure we can hit the targets consistently at various distances, angles and atmospheric conditions. We do not go out and take pot shots at animal indiscriminately.

#1 300 WBY
#2 300 Win
#3 300 WSM.

Go with a 10 twist. Where you got the information that most factory guns come with an 11 twist is beyond me. I have only seen one that DIDN'T have a 10 twist...and it was a 12 twist CZ. A 10 twist is perfect for the 215, 220, 230 sized pills....which is what you should be shooting.

So far, 300WSM is most efficient in terms of accuracy and knock down power. Investigating 300 Win Mag for extra edge.
Blaser R 8 and Tikka T3 listed their twist rate as 11. Which prompted my question.

The WSM is easily one of the most accurate shootable calibers you can get, 10 twists where always the normal choice.
Mark my words, in 10 years 9.5's or 9's will be the norm for extra stability in the long range.

I always hear how accurate all these Rifles are 300 wby, 300 win but the 300wsm still holds The 1000 yard records. Unless the Boys in Montana done something this weekend! With their BB guns. 10 twist is the only way to go with all the 30.cals.
