300 WIN mag advice

Hey guys I am getting ready to start assembly on a new rifle in a new calibre- 300 win mag. I ahve several question that I hope yoou can help with.

1- I have a 1-10 Shilen w brake @ 26" - I was told this WOULD stabalize the Berger 230 Hybrids ( I will probably stay with the tactical type) But I just read that 10's sometimes won't run the Sierra 240's. Will the Bergers go?

2- I am also hoping to save some time and money by getting good info about the brass. Is Hornady good? With prep I ama sure the consistency will be OK but what about hardness? sometimes Hornady Brass is a bit soft in the primer pocket,,,

3- Will the larrywillis collet die be a neccessity to get high fired numbers from each case? (I will be using Redding bushing sompetition die set.)

YOUR HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. VASSAL

"Will the larrywillis collet die be a neccessity to get high fired numbers from each case? (I will be using Redding bushing sompetition die set.)"

I shoot three belted magnums - a .264WM, a 300WM, and a 375 H&H. I load for them all and I shoot them a lot and I have NEVER had the problems that Larry talks about.

None of my friends that shoot belted magnums have any of the problems that Larry talks about.

i hated the .300 wm! am currently switching to .300 wsm. i shot the 240 sierras and they had a VERY long bearing surface which would lead to a lot of copper fouling. the 10 twist will shoot them.

If you don't get greedy for speed you'll be ok. If you do it might not be a bad idea. Once the web starts moving its hard to get control of it

Thanks, I may get "greedy for speed" every once in a while, but my regular loads (in a magnum anyway) will probably be OK- based o what has been said.

Now my 6.5BPC on the other hand get RUN.
