300 Wby Mag accuracy

I have a pre 64 Winchester converted to 300 Wby by Womack. The stock is the original 3 screw, bedded to the barrel screw and floated thereafter. The barrel is 1:10" twist. I can't get this thing to print anything under 8" groups at 100 yds. Here is what I've done.
1. used 3 different Leupold scopes
2. used 150, 165 and 180 grain bullets,Sierra, Hornady, Nosler)
3. used H4831 and MR3100 powders
I need some help!

8 inches at 100 yds? you need alot of help!First thing I would do is take the rifle to a reputable smith and have it looked at,barrel, chamber, throat, crown, bedding -all could cause problems.
Bullets and powders are your least of worries, the 300 WBY Mag is a accurate round.

Hi Gentlemen,

Thank you for your suggestions. The man who made this rifle is long dead, so I can't go to him. Do you know of a good gunsmith in the Dallas Area?

The 300wby with factory chamber can be made to shoot. 1 1/2 moa any day.
Many can shoot moa or less with good handloads. There has to be a good reason why your rechambered M70 is so bad. Three powders were used for years in loading, IMR 4356, H4831, NORMA MRP.
The advice to have a competent gunsmith check your rifle is right on.

Probably a M70 300 HH converted to 300 Wby? That was a not uncommon conversion......sadly if so.
