300 varminter

just breaking the barrel in on my new 300 varminter & wanted to see what loads others were using,i went with a rock creek 20 twist barrel with a little gain twist with a harrels brake, shooting 112 bibs that are danzac coated, haven't run it over the chrony yet, shooting 71 grs of n550 for break in with no pressure signs at all, accuracy is about 1/2 moa while fireforming brass, any info about loads, primer selection, seating depth etc would be appreciated,it's on a model 70 magnum action & i don't want to shoot loads that are going to wreck the brass after one or two firings,thx...r

got it shooting finally with 73grs of n550 & a fed 215m primer with the bib 112 danzac coated, came in at 3892fps avg & grouping in the mid .4s at 200 yds, think it'll do a little better with some tweaking....

Has your action been trued? If not you are best to stay at the lower loads until you find out what the gun will do as far as brass wear and pressure.
I turn my necks so I have .002 clearance in my chamber for a loaded round.

action has been trued, think i will stay low til i see what happens to the brass,at 3900 fps & 3 firings on it the primer pockets are still tight,i turned for .002 clearance also, thinking the 20 twist barrel & the light danzac coated bullets might not build up as much pressure, not showing any pressure signs yet but it's only been shot up to around 70 degrees,we'll see...

just back from shooting out to 500 yds, what a hoot! 6 clicks up for 300yds & 17 clicks up for 500yds! was vaproizing clay pigeons at 500 with no problem! looks like a keeper!
