300 RUM?

After a long wait, I finally picked up my 700 rebarreled with a 27" Krieger in 300 RUM. If any of you load for the 300 do you have any preferences on dies, brass, and powder? I was hoping to get Lapua brass but it looks like it is not offered. I plan on shooting 210gr Berger VLD Hunting. Many recommend RE-25 and H1000

I have a Rem 700 LSS in 300 RUM. Best bullet in mine is the 180-200 gr Nosler accubond and retumbo. I get good velocity and great accuracy.

Exactly what Murray Brook stated. I used the 200gr Accubond with 96.0grs of Retumbo. It ran 3225 out of a 26" barrel with excellent accuracy!

I have a re-barreled Rem. Sendero and shoot the 210 VLDs. I put on a 10-twist 28" Krieger. I use Nosler brass, Retumbo, and GM215M primers. I've never shot it across a chrono. I worked up my load at 600 yards off bi-pods and couldn't believe how good it shot. I want to say I was getting 2 1/2" 3-shot groups when I fine tuned it. I use Redding dies for it.

I run Retumbo over Berger 185 gr VLD and 180 gr TTSX. For the Berger's it takes 94.5 gr with a velocity of 3175 fps.

I have a re-barreled savage. I have shot 185 bergers in the factory bbl. with H-1000, Retumbo, Vith. 165 and 570. Also put on a x-caliber bbl. on shot 200 and 212 grain Hornady eld-x with all the powders above. Then put a pac-nor on it an used 195 sierra tipped mk. and 200 and 212 Hornady's with above mentioned powders. ALL shot very well out to 1000 yards. The 570 gave me REALLY good velocity but a little hard in the throat area. Also tried rl-26 not so good velocity. Yea I shot ALOT. Don't want to give powder charge because I use ALL case capacity. ( pushing 185 bergers at average of 3519 through 2 different graphs. 3 shot group under a dime on my bad days a nickle at 200 yards.)

Skip the Nosler brass and order from ADG/Atlas:



I have tested Retumbo, Re-33, H-1000, H-869, Norma 217 and H50BMG, all with decent results. Norma 217 and Retumbo were the best in several rifle tested.

Retumbo for me too. Watch out for lot to lot variation. I got bit hard when I bought a new lot. Had to reduce 4 grains!

I have a 300 Ultra that likes H-1000 for 200 and 215 VLD's.
200gr. Berger, Fed 215m, 88.2gr. H-1000

I have used Retumbo, 869, and 7828 when I'm out of H-1000

The rifle is a Rem. 700 with a Kreiger 10 twist barrel. Richards Microfit Stock
It's pillar bedded, Jewell trigger set at 6 oz.

Daniel I bought 16lbs of US869 but had such good luck with Retumbo I have never used it. I did use H870 before Retumbo and it is supposed to be the same or close to the same. What are your thoughts on the subject ? Am I leaving something on the table by not using the US869?

Mine were all 10 twist.
92-94 grains of retumbo with 210 Berger (94 shot lights out in my one gun until I shot it on a hot day and it blew the sako extractor right out of it)
Nosler brass, I would use Norma now if I had the option.
With the 190-208 h1000 was nice also

Of that velocity, with that powder and projectile, I have NO DOUBT! The cartridge is well within the realm of "SuperMags"! The "SuperMags" absolutely kill with an incredible "awesomeness", if you will, not seen with cartridges of lesser authority! T-Rust me on this! The Scirrocco's attributes are nearly identical to the Accubond, and may surpass it's ability to penetrate on heavy bone / tissue!

My M700 with a 26" shot better, the hotter the load. I tried Retumbo when it first came out and never switched again. The load data at that time said 101gn was max, but now its somewhere in the 92-95gn range. The federal 215's started to just barely flatten at 96.7, so at 96.5gn, I was pushing 180gn partitions at 3310-3320fps at the muzzle. I just got a new Bartlein, and I'll probably try and stay within the new parameters to see what it likes.
