300 PRC stupid ???

The 300 PRC uses the same brass as a 6.5 PRC correct? I think I have this right but please correct me if I am wrong..... The 6.5 PRC came from the parent case of a 300 Ruger Compact Mag which came from a 375 Ruger mag necked down, correct? So essentially both cases, the 6.5 PRC and the 300 PRC have the same lineage, both coming from the 375 Ruger, down to the 300 RCM down to the 2 different PRC's. Is this correct?
Thanks!

They are same diameter, but different lengths. 338 rcm is shorter than 300 rcm. 6.5 prc is shorter yet. All are shorter than 375. I’m not sure where the 300 prc is, but sure that it’s longer than the 300 rcm.

The 6.5 PRC is much shorter but same body diameter. Not based on the same cartridges, at all. The 300 PRC is not quite as long as a 300 win mag but fatter and holds a few more grains powder than a 300 win mag.

They could be considered to have the same parent cartridge if you wanted but realistically the 6.5's parent is the RCM and the 300 is the 375 Ruger. They are not even close to being the same case. The 6.5 has a case capacity of ~68 grains of H2O and the 300 is ~93.5(ADG)-97(Hornady).

No. Not completely correct.

Uh oh. Flawed logic.
The 6.5PRC is akin to the same philosophy as the WSM's from Winchester, AKA short and fat. The 6.5PRC can be shoe-horned into a short action but the 300PRC can be trouble for even standard long actions (depending on bullet choice). There, in my mind, two assets associated from 300PRC over 300WM.
First is the lack of belted case in 300PRC and second is the slightly longer neck. For high quality 300PRC brass simply look to ADG and, mostly, Hornady is (in spite of all the criticism) very good brass. It may not always outlast Lapua but I've had excellent luck with it over several years (other calibers).
I have a barrel blank and brass on the shelf and will soon be changing out my tired 300WM barrel for the 300PRC. I think that, even if I get only 300WM performance from 300PRC, I'll be moving on up.

My 300 PRC Hornady brass is holding up fine.
Failure testing 50 pieces and on 8th firing.
Black Bear long action, 225 ELDMs shoot ok, 215 Bergers real well.

My current 300WM load is the 230 Berger Hybrid ahead of a good dose of Retumbo in W-W brass.
I have been shooting the 6.5 Creedmoor since early 2009 and the 6 Creedmoor since 2012 and the Hornady brass has served me very well.
I did have Hornady 6.5PRC brass failure (necks) on the second firing. Hornady replaced the 8 or so that failed with a box of 50 so I have absolutely no complaints. Besides, it had to be an incidental issue because none of the rest of that batch of brass has failed after 6 more firings.

So as people have stated, the 300 prc is much differerent than 6.5. 6.5 prc is a short magnum. 300 is not. That said, I know of people necking up 6.5 PRC to 7mm and 300 so there does exist a 300-6.5PRC short magnum.

Thank you! There is where my confusion came from.
