300 Norma

Has anyone ever built a 300 Norma Mag in an ackley improved and how did it perform? DG

I did mess with a reg 300 norma not the improved, I think the steeper shoulder might help some barrel life.I burned mine up in 400 rnds.

It struggled to shoot a 190 at 1k.I might build another later.I talked to a couple of guys that had good luck with it,but I can,t remember if any of them shot matches with it.I think it would be one helluva hunting cartridge for like elk at 600 yds.

I made have a cartridge called a 300xr. It is a long neck, 35 degree shoulder angle with the taper taken out of the case. So far so good on the barrel life. I have about 600 rounds on this barrel & not very much fire cracking at all. The accuracy has been so good with 208 AMAX's I have yet to try Berger 230 Hybrids. I also made the same thing necked down to 7mm. With slightly over 800 rounds on the 7xr there is quite a bit of fire cracking but the accuracy is still really good. I have only used Retumbo & RL50 but have some RL33 to try later.
