300 Norma Mag and Staball HD

Hello,

Does anyone have any info/advice on load development for 300 Norma and Satball HD? I'm using 220gr Bergers and was thinking about 80-81grs to start. I've looked all over and found some data, but was a little suspect, up to 88grs and didn't want to start that high. I also have N570, but have load data for that, just haven't tried it yet. I can find Staball HD easy and have a ton of H1000, but H1000 was showing pressure (swipes) at 81grs. Great numbers, but was showing good swipes on Norma brass. My goal is Staball HD because it's easier to find than N570.

I was also thinking of using the same Retumbo data for HD since they're so close on the powder burn chart. Was hoping someone here has used it. Thanks.

It looks like stable HD is even closer to retumbo than N570.

After a little digging and doing a few comparisons, I also agree with your 80 grains starting point.

Staballs HD seems like it's going to be a good powder. 84gr gave me the following. No pressure signs, all was good. See if I can go to 86grs. All with Lapua brass, it fixed all the issues I was having.


And this was H1000 81.5 and 82gr

I actually went up to 87.2gr and 3030fps and with H50BMG 92gr which gave me 2950fps. Again, difficult to tell if there was pressure because brass did not grow in length and primer pockets are like new. I use a primer pocket gauge and even the "go" side won't go in. Strange velocity spikes, but might be due to temp.

At 80f I started seeing pressure at 86gr and already past 3000fps. I did an OCW type test and 84.8gr looks good at 2970fps.

I finally got around to trying Staball HD and took it up to 89 gr. But my 300 Norma is improved. There still wasn’t any pressure signs and I got 3080 FPS. The 88.5 group was the tightest.

That's killer. What bullet are you using? Im using 220gr Bergers. I was mostly pressure testing and I think I found it, but I can do a load for colder weather (around 60f). Next week I start bullet seating tests then to 600yds to see how it goes.
