300 Norma Imp on a short action?

Bear with me here, I am trying to scratch an itch that just wont go away.

After looking into what folks are building 300 Norma Imp's on, I was wondering, would a Kelbly Atlas short action with no mag inlet and bolt opened up be viable as a single shot action for this cartridge?

Or for that matter, a BAT VR with integral pic rail?

Thanks

Josh

All Rem 40x's are short actions. They were chambers for th 7mm mag.
I don't they will eject a loaded round that long without removing the bolt.

Yup, one of the reasons why I am thinking that a quality short action from a custom action manufacturer may be viable, just not optimal.

Why would you want to complicate the issue? Would only be saving a little weight on the metal, but creating a lot of headaches.

My loaded 300 Norma Improved rounds with Berger 215gr & 230gr and Sierra MK 230gr seated to the lands with .235" free bore have OAL's from 3.650-ish" to 3.7"

The BAT VR port is only 2.56". The 300 Norma case alone is 2.5 inches long. No way would that work. Would have to remove your ejector plunger and pull the bolt on a loaded round. Might not even eject an empty case. Loading would be a pain too when trying to fit a long round in a short port.

The Atlas has a mechanical ejector. You would have to remove that and pull the bolt as well.

Plus a short action isn't going to have the heavy .750" bolt body the Lapua BF should have. A gunsmith is gonna give you one crazy look when you ask him to open up a short action bolt face for Lapua. A lot of them probably won't even do it. The action manufacturers aren't gonna do it for you either.

Resale on an action modified like that would be nearly impossible as well. Once you do it, you would need to spend extra money to replace the bolt if you didn't like it. Plus take a loss on a used action.
