300 Blackout reloading.. HELP

I just received my tax stamp and picked up my suppressor for my 300 blackout last week and ammunition is still scarce, so I have decided I'm going to start reloading some rounds. My brother-in-law reloads so I'll use his press and and everything but I have a few questions I was hoping someone could help with. As far as the material I need to get started is there a certain type of 300 blackout dye I have to get? My gun is on an AR platform.. And I know I need the dye, casings, powder, primers, and bullets, but is that everything? Also im having a lot of trouble finding websites that sell 300 blackout bullets so if hall have any suggestions it would really help wanting to load mainly 200-220 gr subsonic FMJ (Probably) bullets but will also load a few subsonic hunting rounds as well. Where can I find them?

Congrats on the tax stamp, and welcome to the .300 Blackout. A fascinating and remarkably versatile cartridge!

A couple quick thoughts...

If lack of factory fodder for your new AR is the sole reason you want to reload, you might want to re-think that. You'll be trading one hard-to-find item for a handful of hard-to-find items.

If you do decide to handload, I'd strongly recommend getting your own press and own gear and not being dependent upon your brother-in-law. The basic gear needed to load ammunition isn't that expensive, and the process isn't very hard. But it does require at least a modicum of commitment. Trying to do it casually, every now and again, doesn't usually end well. Those little bombs you're setting off in front of your nose are quite easy to make well. But, alas, just as easy to make not-so-well.

Most any full length sizing die from any of the big players should work fine. Since you're running an AR platform I'd recommend a small-base die, although that's not always necessary. You'll also need a seating die. You can buy the two of them as a set.

Here's a book I'd recommend... https://www.amazon.com/Metallic-Car...254&sprefix=metallic+cartridge,aps,167&sr=8-2

It seems no one else saw or answered the tough question. 300 blk shoots 7.62mm/.308 bullets. They're common enough, insofar as common equates to available these days.

It's easiest to start with the right brass, too, rather than chopping and fire forming from .223. Try ammoseeker and pick up some reloads. You want brass cases, not steel. Police up your brass as you go. You too can be that stoop shouldered guy muttering at the ground as he paces around his bench after an afternoon of shooting.

Good luck with subs.

You have an AR platform, but what gas system length? If it’s a pistol length system then you have some options; however, if it’s a carbine length system you have a very narrow window of bullet and powder choices to make it cycle with and w/o the can and stay subsonic.

I have a BO carbine length upper that I’ve decided just isnt worth the bother.

Loaded to super levels its kind of a 30-30 for an AR platform, and that makes sense. I know there are a lot but of BO fanboys out there there but the reality is that as a sub it’s really just a pointy 9 Para in an AR platform. Thats my personal opinion. I went with a 458SOCOM for my suppressed sub gun.

There is a 300 BO forum out there. Maybe try asking around there but not until you have spent a while searching.

300/221 Remington, 300 Whisper, 300 Blackout. Essentially the same thing with different names. You might expand your search parameters and find what you need.
