300 Blackout C.O.L. Questions

Sorry for all the Blackout questions here but I want to be safe with my reloads and I am just getting started out with the Blackout rounds. I've got the Hornady 9th Edition book and looking at the data for 150gr bullets I am a bit skepticle about the COL they are saying to use. On all the 150gr bullets they are saying the COL should be 2.220" but these bullets are different lengths and designs. Any insight on why this would be? I'm thinking these COL's are a bit too long in some bullets but what do I know. :D

The first rounds I loaded for the blackout were some 150gr FMJ w/cannelure hornady's. I used the data right out of their book and didn't have any issues with them. The only thing that was weird was that the cannelure was way above the mouth of the case.

OK, I'll try that data out then. As for that cannelure, I've had the same issues with loading some 223's. I have to expect that the reason for the cannelure out so far is because those bullets were designed for 308's and they probably seat down further but thats just a guess since I don't load any 308's for anything else.

Try to seat were the bearing surface of the bullet is in as much contact with the neck as possible. The more contact the more concentric the cartridge is. This can be done incrementally while checking OAL for magazine use. I think Hornady's seating depths are more centered around a general magazine fit OAL.

Just keep in mind that the published data from the load manuals should be safe to use. I typically use nosler bullets for the blackout and have found that their load data is pretty spot on as far as max charge is concerned. I bounced around with a few different bullets for a while trying to figure out what i like best and then settled on the 110 varmageddon. Those ended up being the best bang for the buck for me. I would buy the hornady version but can't seem to find them for the same price as the nosler's.
