300 Ackley

OK guys I have a good friend that has a 300 Ackley.he is wanting to get it out to 1000 with great results.his choice of bullets are the 208 A-max and a 210 Breger VLD.I told him to check out the Hawksridge site and he said all are useing R25 but no info on charge weight.

so can any of you guys help him out.he is only 16 years old and a really great young man.his love for the sport out does mine.and with him wanting and being able to reload his own I will try my best to help him.just wish we lived alot closer to each other so that I can help him out better than useing the computer all the time.so what say ya guys will you help him out.and thanks for the help if you give it.

I have built a number of wildcats and Ackleys - first measure the water volume of the case un-fire formed, then use a full normal load for the caliber to fire form.

weight the water volume of the formed case and now calculate the % increase in volume. it usually is 4-6% higher.

i then have take hodgden or Sierra data and increase by 2-3% the max load as a starting point. do a ladder from there looking for group and pressure, if pressure signs show up, back off 1/2-1gr.

do not expect to have good results with aload increase larger than the water volume % increase, i never have.

I shot 80grs. of reloader 25 with 210 bergers out of a 29" lija for 3044 fps. Hope this helps. This showed no sighns of pressure in my rifle and I believe may have been alittle light but it shot very well, high .1 to low .2 for 5 shots at 100yds. I took 3 out of 4 small groups at 500yds at our local gh matches with this load. Good luck.

thanks guys he sure will be happy to hear of this.heck he will still have to work something up.but a good starting point is what he was asking for.he is like me our budget is really small and hard to watch the money fly away when testing and it not getting us any where.so thanks again guys he really needs the info.so if you guys have any more to offer he would be thankfull.and it can be any type of powder and bullet just thought that the R25 was a good starting point from looking at the info from Hawsridge site.
