300 & 338 RCM Chambers

I've read about needing to increase the chamber reamer size above SAAMI on a 300 PRC because the sizing dies don't size the case enough.

Does this same condition exist with the RCM cartridges?

There probably aren't enough RCM owners on this website to even begin to get a consensus unfortunately. These were not terribly successful cartridges when they were released. Good cartridges, just not successful...

I've built probably a dozen or a couple more of both cartridges, 3 of which went to Africa on very successful plains game hunts. I tested every rifle with factory loads, of course but the ammunition which went to the owners was handloads. I loaded using standard factory Hornady dies which never produced 'clickers' or any other foible attributed to cartridges noted today.

I know that's not much but if you have any other questions, please ask.

:)

The 375 Ruger case and shorter Ruger Compact Magnum (RCM) offspring existed and were used in wildcat chambers many years before the PRC. The RCM's are just shortened 375 Ruger cases. And of course the PRC's are designed from the 375 Ruger case as well.

There was a 6.5mm-300 RCM which is essentially the current 6.5 PRC. Wildcat chambers also ranged from 338 cal all the way down to 6.5mm in the original 375 Ruger parent case. There was a lot of work done with the 308-375 Ruger as well, which is now known as the 300 PRC.

I've heard of issues with clickers on the 300 PRC as well that requires opening up the chamber at the .200" line due to a saami screw up, but never heard of that issue on chambers made from the original 375 Ruger specs. I have personally owned a 338-375 Ruger for many years and it is one of my top performers for big game hunting. I have never had issues with sizing cases or 'clickers' when ejecting a fired case on the 338-375R. I don't recall anyone wildcatting off the 375 Ruger or RCM cases in years past having any sizing or clicker issues with those cases either.
