300-221 remington

Any one on 6mmBR have a 300-221 Remmy and what is your general feelings toward this cartridge????

I just finished blue printing and lapping a SS Ruger I had, and I plan on chambering it for the 300-221

Just woundering....

Eagle, I've built dozens of these for people over the years....one of the most use full and underrated cartridges out there.

I have been playing with a 300/221 for a couple of years now. Have a reworked Savage SA for the base. I originally picked this cartridge because I had about 15,000 174 gr Mil bullets that I got for free and I thought with 10grs of powder this would really be a cheap shooter. I have not been able to acheive the accuracy that I expected, require). The round seems to like the 1300-1400 fps area regardless of bullet. I have used 125s up to 220 gr bullets with 4" groups on the upper and lower areas, subsonic up to 1800fps)and 1.25"-1.5" groups at the 1350 area. I originally had a barrel which had a lot of throat and could not seat anything except 220gr RN at the lands. I switched to a new barrel and had Dave Kiff make me a tight neck, match?) reamer which would seat most bullets over 150gr at or near the lands with 2.260 OAL. This round has really been a time eater with the various bullets and powders and the amount of drop at 100 yards going from 900 fps to 1800 fps. My next step is to really go after the cases. I have weight sorted and will be neck turning this coming season and possibly trying annealing. If things don't improve this summer I already have a .22 14" twist barrel blank for a 221 Fireball waiting. To sum up, it's been fun but frustrating.

There has been extensive military research done on the the 300 Whisper. 240 SMK shooting 1080 fps can be shot sub 1. moa at 200 yards. They will go completely through a man sized target with no sound at all. It really surprises me that no more folks get a federal stamp for a suppressor for this caliber. They are great fun to shoot. No noise, no recoil, and you can watch your bullets impact.
