30 TC

Anybody seen one??

This new Hornady cartridge is supposedly being made for the TC Icon crowd and is a scaled down 308, from what I hear. If so that would make it identical to about a gazzilion of the 30 caliber HBR cartridges.

There are some pretty wild claims being broadcast about it's performance - you know, the usual. Faster than a 30-06, less recoil, long case life, etc.

Where can I get one to look at? Measurements posted anywhere? Help!

Thanks for the link.

It is just about what I expected. 1.920" long. Hmmmm. Isn't that darn close to 3 or 4 HBR caridges that have been in use for years? And another Hmmmmm. 150 grain at 2900 fps is FASTER than a 30-06??

I got a kick out of his comment that shooters will immediately neck it up and down. Been done.

I hate to sound skeptical in my old age but it sounds like a lot of hype but I suppose we can always use another "new" cartridge.

As you know Ray, all these so called "new" cartridges have been done before, but when one of the big boys throws a patent on it, hunters listen. TC will fool many casual shooters into thinking this cartride will outperform this or that, because they believe what's written in the mags. Sadly, the authors of the mag articles aren't really shooters for the most part anyway. Hell, this kind of thing is passed off on the websites to shooters that should know better than to believe that someone has just re-invented the wheel by pushing the shoulder back on a 243, or some other case. It's all been done before, but until you put forth the effort to get you're name on it, it's just another wildcat.

Aren't we really seeing custom blended powders that are not readily available to us normal joes? Will handloaders get the same velocities from the powder our cabinets?

Found something interesting on the linked report, namely on teh Guns and Ammo website. Jumped off the article and looked at their ballistic charts. I'm definitely sticking with the 308 Win!!! The Hornady Light Magnum load, according to G&A's chart) launches at 3000fps, but amazingly, the trajectory defies gravity:

100yds + 1.5"
300yds - 7.1"
400yds 20.3"
500yds 41.4"

The bullet actually goes negative briefly at 300yds, then starts to rise.....Amazing!

HAHA Faster than an '06 huh? then why can i push 155 scenars and amaxes at near 3500FPS? odd, VERY odd,not really a load i'd reccomend though, running at about 61k pressure)
