30 Newton & 30 Boo Boo

Since the 30 Boo Boo is winning 1000yd matches, I just wonder why no one is running the 30 Newton. Very similar in performance and since the Boo Boo takes a special bolt face and the 30 Newton will work with standard mag bolt face, seems it would be easier to go with Newton. Most people has never heard of the Newton but with todays powders and high BC bullets, it might be worth looking into. Alot of wildcats are designed when really there are some cartridges that people never heard of that they are just duplicating the performance of.

Where do you get Newton brass?

30 Newton brass is formed from 8x68 S brass using form and trim dies available from RCBS. Midway carries 8x68 S brass (Norma manufacture if memory serves).

I wouldn`t go through the aggravation of forming from 8x68. Jamison has been making the Newton brass for sometime now. The 8x68 has an odd diameter rim.

May be wrong, but I believe the Boo Boo is also formed from 8x68 brass. RWS is preferred due to its durability. Must be a reason the target shooters are using it. Perhaps some users could enlighten us.

I have never personally seen any Jamison brass. But I would imagine it is not of the same quality as RWS, Norma and Lapua. Also I’ve never seen any Jamison cases list on a 1K equipment list. RWS is supposed to be the toughest brass on the planet. I have both RWS and the Norma 8x68s cases and they weight exactly the same. The “Odd” case head diameter is a non-issue! A standard Magnum bolt face using a claw type extractor will pull the fired cases just fine.

Jamison makes the Cheytac brass. I have used it for years. Very good quality. Just seems since RWS brass is so hard to get that the Jamison 30 Newton would be a better alternative.

Just be sure you have a brass supply on hand, those custom dies are not going to be cheap for either of these wildcats.
