30 MOA adjustment!

I have an Rem 700 VLS in 6 mm Rem. I also have the Burris 8-32 X 50 Black D. I am sitting in right at the top of the scope adjustment. So, I am looking at making or buying a 30 MOA base. my problem is I bought the Leupold rings,30mm) twist in two piece bases. I did some figuring out and if i put .024" under the back base it would equal a 30 MOA base. but, the problem I am see is the scope tube. Would there be too much stress on the tube? the distance from the back to the front of the bases is 4". I could figure out the amount of shim needed to shim the front base. what about the screws and the bases do you see any problem with this set up?

Thanks,

Mike

First off, I don't think .024" of shim will get you 30MOA. That will only get you about 20MOA but it is probably enough.

Yes, shimming the rear base will probably put your scope under a strain. You can lap the rings to compensate for most of it. Or get a some tapered bases or some rings with inserts.

Mike,

By all means explore the Burris Sig rings w/ the offset inserts, if you haven't already pulled the trigger on a fix for your problem. They are absolutely the best thing for scope mounting, & adding moa capability since sliced bread...........You will NEVER mark a scope body unless you crush it and not sure that is even possible w/o stripping the threads.

Ken Farrell rins & bridge mounts are a little spendy but well worth every penny, any taper/material you desire with or without a lug.

I use the burris sig. rings with a 20* off set in the back ring and a 0* in the front and I am almost at the bottem of my scope adjustment at 100 yds, this will give 1500 yds adjustment with my .338 RUM. They wock great, and it doesn't cost you a $100.00 to $150.00 for a 20 MOA base.Tim
