30 Dasher

Double, there's a good thread on BRC from 2009 discussing the 30 dasher.

If you search 30 dasher in the search it'll bring it up for you. I read it with a lot of interest but in the end just stuck with the 30BR.

Not knowing what you're plans were for it, this was all about score shooting, it may or may not be helpful.

If you have any trouble finding it I can PM you a link.

Thanks and best of luck if you try one out, I'd like to know you're results.

Seems I read some where that someone was shooting score with one and it was hard to beat. Sounded to me like too much recoil over a 30 BR, but Ive never seen one let alone shoot one so what do I know. The 30 BR and 30 PPC are very interesting to me, I shot a friends 30 BR and Ive never shot anything even close to as accurate as that gun. I have a 6PPC and when it needs a barrel it will most likely become a 30 PPC as the bolt face is a PPC and it is a small Hall action and it doesn't look like it could be opened up. The guys that started the 30 BR claim they don't know how many shots it takes to wear out a barrel, cause they don't know of one that has worn out. This is attractive to me as I just get to know a barrel and its gone, but one of these has some life to it. I think a 30 dasher will have a long life also, and that's got to be good.

The 30 Dasher is very popular in my neck of the woods in IBS VFS and the groundhog shoot circuit. It doesn't get a lot of publicity as the guys using them usually just put 30 BR or even just 30 on the equipment list.

It makes a lot of sense to me as most 30 BR shooters only use the last 0.2" of the neck to hold the bullet anyway, why not bump up the powder capacity. It doesn't seem to reduce accuracy or barrel life and some extra velocity might help. I know one gentleman who has over 7,000 rounds through his and it's still winning. I've never heard any of them complain about additional recoil. Of course winners seldom complain.

The 30-6.5X47 Lapua is rather popular also.

I tried this a number of years ago after I got to shooting the 30BR a lot. 1st try was with a PT&G reamer that had a chamber OAL of about 1.600" IIRC, but fireforming was a bitch because of headspace & the brass (necked up with a mandrel ) came out quite a bit shorter that the chamber. After considering these problems, I had Gary Long re-chamber the barrel so that the fireform loads headspaced on the case mouth, like an auto pistol does. It worked very well & the brass came out about .015" shorter than camber OAL. Again IIRC, the chamber was about .030-.040 short. Shot it a little to FF 50 pcs of brass & check things out, then put it away because I had gotten into the hunt for IBS SSOY by then & needed no distractions. If anyone would like to persue it, I still have the barrel (for a Farley action), brass, and dies. Just PM me.

I can also see how this could be done somewhat easier now by opening up the neck by blowing the brass out with whatever you prefer, i used a case full of Bullseye topped with a plastic ball in a specially chambered scrap barrel that has a chamber OAL of 1.800. Doing it that way gives very concentric brass with an OAL of 1.550 - 1.555 IIRC, so you could trim it, turn it & be ready to fireform it to almost full length. Of course I realize that if you already have learned all that I learned 15 - 18 years ago, you can just do some of this & have the reamer made to the needed dimensions. From what I could tell, this cartridge had the potential to add 100 - 150 fps to the standard 30BR. Just sharing my experience, Joe
