Good luck...I've tried contacting Vapor Trail about those bullets and 6mm bullets a few times via voicemail and email. Never any response so I gave up. Would hate if I got some and they shot good and then never be able to get more. I know he's busy but Vapor Trail will never get my business with such piss poor service.

I understand the frustration! But I found out quickly when I started this game in the early 2000’s that you have got to have patience when it comes to getting the best custom parts and components! Most everything you need to have custom made exactly like you want is several months out! Actions, several months out, stocks, several months out, barrels, same, the best custom bullets, several months out! Vapor Trail Bullets is pretty much a one man operation. Frankly, I don’t see how he does all he does! Not to mention he owns an operates an IBS santioned range that was just recently distroyed by a major flood! There is a reason his bullets are several months out! They are great, high quality bullets. So before you slam a good person that has done A LOT for our sport. Leave him a detailed voice mail and email. He does not have a secretary to take calls and answer emails immediately. He is busy working making bullets and gets back with people when he can, in the order they come in. Samuel Hall

I fully understand how long it takes for custom rifle components but that has nothing to do with never answering customers after multiple detailed emails and voicemails.

I dont care if he would have invented the center fire cartridge and bolt action rifle to improve the shooting sports. If he doesn't want to answer customers then I dont want anything to do with him.

I have tried to contact you, it was my understanding you wanted 180 gr, I dont make any of those, dont have the jackets, if you want 204 gr send me a contact number when we ramp back up for them I will get you taken care of.

I'm just going to give you a quick response, I personally handled your emails and responses, I could not make you happy.
We strive to do our best for everyone, at times we get very behind and some slip through the cracks.
I personally guarantee you didn't slip through unnoticed.
I was warned from others in your area after you got mad the first time.
If you would like to try this again and go about in a nicer way and understand that we are not perfect and dont claim to be, I bet we can figure something out.

I have never had any interest in 180gr 30 cal bullets so you must have me confused with someone else...

I dont recall ever receiving an email response either. I would have been delighted to try some VT bullets had there been a response in anything close to a timely manner.

I talked to some acquaintances that use your bullets and they said to just keep emailing and calling and eventually you would respond. That didnt work and I dont have time for that. Cant have rifles sitting around waiting on bullets.

Dont know what a "warning" would be about...maybe my money isnt as green as other folks? I dont know...again, must have me confused with someone else. And if you did happen to talk to someone who "claims" to know me on a personal level and they gave you some sort of warning about me, I can assure you that person does not actually know me very well at all and definitely would not be someone I consider a "friend".

Thanks for the offer on working out a bullet order but I need a company that I can depend on when I need an answer or to make an order. Take care Tom.

The custom rifle business is kind of unique. Anyone could copy a 103 vapor trail, Sierra or Berger could start making them, but its not the bullet we want, its the skill of the maker. You can not just make more. So either you wait or you use something else. They will never be on Amazon, LOL. I get customer service but until you have experienced that load on one person you wont understand. The other option is to stop taking orders, then guys would start saying they only sell to certain people. Its a lose lose. I get it, and I have no problems waiting.

I know this thread isn't about 6mm, but if you don't want to wait on the hand pulled 103s, I think these Tacs are really something. Pretty damn close to Amazon service with them. Priced the same as Bergers & they shoot way better than anything Bozos could get his mitts on to sell. Just don't tell too many people. LOL

Here's my thoughts on this. (Granted, not 30 cal related, but since this seems to be taking shots at Tom and his bullets/customer service, I feel obligated to respond.)

I always have to chuckle when people complain about lead times. For the love of all that is holy, EVERYONE KNOWS HOW LONG IT TAKES TO GET A VAPOR TRAIL BULLET. Please please please stop bitching about it. If you want to shoot a Vapor, place your order a year in advance, and let the man do his magic on his bullets. If you are in a hurry, or can't wait that long, buy something else. How is that difficult?

People are willing to wait 6 months at a time for actions, stocks, barrels etc, but god forbid you have to plan accordingly with your bullets!

Like Sam mentioned, the man runs an IBS range that was completely destroyed, a PRS range and National PRS match, answers emails and phone calls all day, and makes bullets all day. I'd prefer just to give them the benefit of doubt that maybe he's just busy?

To be perfectly clear, my complaint had nothing to do with lead time on a bullet order. I fully understand that quality components take time for production. I've had very long wait times in the past for rifle components, custom dies, and other things. Not an issue.

My issue was that I couldnt even get a response to PLACE an order.

I commend Tom for the quality product he produces and all he does for the shooting sports. Hat is off to him for that. I'm sure all of the current customers he tends to will remain happy and shoot at the top of their game. Didnt mean to cause a scene, just stating my experience, or lack thereof for a better term. I've read posts from other shooters over the last handful of years where they are all asking how to get ahold of someone to purchase VT bullets so I am confident there were many others in the same boat.

I'm not trying to bash a person who is a master of his trade or his product. It's well known the bullets are some of the best ever made. Hence the reason I wanted to try them. Just forewarning people like the OP not be too hopeful of succeeding as a newcomer trying to get their hands on VT bullets.

Tom J is a true gentleman. He is a craftsman in every sense of the world. I honestly don’t know how he manages his life. He manufactures one of the best Bullets in the world. If anyone thinks that they will get them in a timely manor they are living in the land of fuzzy bunnies and unicorns. He is one year out and that’s the cold hard facts. Put your name on his list and be patient, no need to call him every month. The rumors of him selling to only certain people or geographic areas is just not true and not fair to Tom.

Order enough to last a year, when you get the order, get back on the waiting list and then by the time you’re about out, you’ll be set again. The man just said get in touch with him and something could be worked out. What more do you want?
