30 BR twist for heavier bullets.

I am looking for suggestions on the twist for a 30 BR rifle to shoot heavier bullets. I am in Canada and therefore don't have access to the neat Berger light weight bullets. What I can get are Sierra's, Hornady's and Nosler's. Before I had health problems I shoot a F Class with a 308 Win and the amazing 154 Lapua's. I was hoping to get a 30 BR to shoot these at up to 300 yds off a bench.

Any suggestions.

Thanks, Jay Winfield

13-14 TWIST WILL SHOOT 155 SMK BUT YOU WILL FIND THE CASE CAPACITY WILL BE A LIMITING FACTOR..HEAVY BULLETS= SLOWER POWDER AND MORE OF IT TO GET VELOCIY UP..125 GR SIERRA WORK IN 15-16 TWIST..H322 POWDER

I found the hornady 110 a-max to shoot very well in my 30br. I was using them for fireforming loads and didn't have a group over 0.5 with them. I have a 1:17 shilen.
Should work just fine out to 300yds. If you are looking for match bullets, check out BIB bullets made by randy robinette. They are excellent, period. There are also a number of other custom makers out there who are starting to offer lightweight .30's. Not sure if they are only available in the CONUS, but would be worth looking into. If you get a 15 or 16 twist you should be able to stabilize 125's just fine. Even the 17,as long as it is truly a 17 or 17.25") should be able to stabilize the 125's though it would be close to the edge from what I have read.
Hope this helps.
Mike

I am building a 30BR to use with heavier bullets.
I will get it on 1-12 twist. My goal is to use 155-168gr.Match bullets around 2.500-2.600 fps for Position Shooting up to 300 meters, around 330 yards)
And use 160-180gr. cast bullets around 2.000 fps for silhouete matches up to 200 meters,aprox.220 yards).

Hope it will work...

I built a 30BR with a 12 twist Hart barrel and it shoots 110 Hornady VMAX and everything around the 150 to 178 range very well. I have not shot anything over 178 grain bullets but I think most everything will shoot. Ross
