30 BR to shoot Cast Lead

Does anyone here have any experience with the 30BR shooting cast bullets? I have been on a cast bullet kick for a few years now and would like to try this. This would be with 185-200gr cast lead bullets. I have been having very good luck with my 308 win running a 200gr at about 2100fps.

I know nothing about the 30br. I read the article a few times on the main page. I have talked to a few people about this and they think this is the best 30cal case for lead. The reduced capacity of the case is ideal for what I want to do.

Any advice is greatly welcomed.

The 308x1.5" was the darling of the cast bullet crowd 20 or so years ago. Change the shoulder to 30 degrees and you have the 30BR. Should be a great cast bullet shooter. I doubt if the very popular "0 freebore" reamers would work so well.

Doc is right. I do work for several cast shooters, and the 30BR is the ticket, at least now. Brass is so easy to make and the case size is ideal for them.

Throating is a biggie with these guys. Plus, you are usually running a bullet of .310" diameter, not .308", so the throat and neck has to be for it.

You don't quite need the 12 twist for the 180 to 200 grain bullets. I chambered a 14-1/2" twist barrel for a guy and it is shooting very well. Most do use the 12 though.

I shot the Coors matches for several years..Used 33-47 in Winchester Hi Wall....I had a notion to try the 30 BR recently and put one together with a 10 twist Douglas..I bought a series of good looking comercial 200 grain lead bullets but failed to get competitive results My guess is I need 11 or 12 twist ..I believe Greenhill is the formula for determining bullet length and twist needed ....Dont worry about 0 freebore...Use a 2 diameter bullet with as much nose up the lands as possible...Better shooters of cast bullets use bullet seaters to shove the bullet into the rifling completely beyound the case, then charge the case and shoot..Breech Seating..Have fun.....LT

I believe breech seating, like paper patch, is a match of it's own.

While you're seating a bullet, and then getting a charged case in, I've already shot my five shots, I could get 10 down range in that time.

Like trying to insert a round that has the mold line the same way each time. Go ahead, I'll be finished.

I'm a regular member over at cast boolits forum. A few people said to ask here.

The throat is what I am wondering about. O free bore will not work for what I want to do. Lead bullets is more confusing than shooting jacketed. I want a more efficient case than the 308win. I am doing good with it, but I want something different.
