30 br robinett reamer ???

The 30br robinette reamer calls for a .330 turn neck. Does the neck really need to be that small with 6br lapua brass would a .332 neck also clean up 100 %when turned. Anybody have any experience on that subject. Also would that get rid of the donut that forms when necking up???

My 30 BR has a .332 neck. I still have the donut when expanding the neck. I am still too new to the cartridge to give you a specific answer. I turn my necks according to my chamber the same as one would with a .330 neck. I do not believe the donut can be eliminated when necking up as this part of the neck comes from the original shoulder of the parent case.

What size bushing are you useing. Does .332 neck give you 100% clean up of the neck with lapua brass. Also curious what reamer did you use. What is your trim length and freebore.

With the blue box Lapua brass, about .0106" is the 95% - 100% clean up spot. There is nothing wrong with running a .332 neck in a 30br. There is nothing wrong with running a .330 neck 30br. You just need to turn your brass to give .0015" - .0025" clearance.

You can turn it less (thicker brass) but (generally speaking) it wont be completely cleaned up.

If it were me..... and I had a ,332 neck 30br.... I would turn my brass to .0106"

My 30BR was reamed with the RR reamer. I send my brass to DJ for neck turning to 328. I have 4 one hundred round boxes loaded right now. I measured necks the other day for grins and giggles, just a sampling of each box. 3 boxes measured 328. 1 box measured 330. They all shoot great and as far as I know, no stiff bolt close. Each box has at least 2 loadings on the brass.

My old (circa 2001) .30BR has a .329 neck. I don’t see any need for it to be that tight, and wouldn’t cut it that tight again - the brass cleaned up just fine with room to spare.
I decided on a .331 neck for my 30BRAI. Randy told me if there was one thing he could change about the 30BR, its that he wished it would hold one more grain of powder. Plus I like 40 degree shoulders :)

I also love the idea of a slightly improved 30BR. Seems like I can’t quite fit enough 4198 in there. How does it shoot?

If you guys want to try this the print is available from JGS. Its my 30BRA. Its nothing exotic, it will use a Harrell's D3 sizing die with the neck opened up and a 30 cal bushing. I did go short on the chamber length because I believe you make better cases when they shrink up VS stretching the brass to keep it long.

Nice sine wave. That 40 degree shoulder puts you in the velocity sweet-spot between a 30BR and a 30x47, using H 4198.

I cant comment on the accuracy. I dont have enough experiance with both to tell you. I have a few out there and the guys have done well. @Roy H shot one in a match or two he may be able to give you an opinion on how it compares. Theres a few at the ground hog match, I think they go out to 400 and it has won at least once to my knowledge. Not a very good answer, I know.
