30 BR Neck Turning of New Brass

Perhaps I've missed this discussion, if so please point me in the right direction. After necking up my 6BR brass up to 30 cal. the neck/shoulder is rounded and not well defined. What is the best technique for neck turning so that I do not cut too far into the shoulder?

If your neck shoulder junction is rounded as you say, you need to increase the load to a snappy one that will form out the case the first time out of the chamber.
Depending on your neck turning set up, you just need to barely touch the shoulder with the cutter tip so it will seem to blend into the junction, with no sharp edges, and all will be OK.....

I turned the neck down into the shoulder just far enough to allow the case to chamber. Just by eyeballing the cutting depth I discovered that the bolt wouldn't close and I had to cut a little farther into the shoulder junction. Once I had the mandrel set at the right depth so that every case I cut would chamber I then sectioned a case to make sure I had plenty of brass left in the junction.

I just fired my first 8 fireforming loads today. The first 3 went into the 10 ring on the sighter. I shot the next 5 like it was a match. 50-3x [ possibly 4x ]. I am going to fireform all the rest of my cases at next month's match :)

Thank you for your input. It appears this is a trial and error sort of thing. Once again, thanks guys for sharing your thoughts.
