.30 American

Anyone have any information on this 20+ year old target cartridge? I know there was a batch of factory ammo made and that it has the .30/30 for a parent cartridge. Any further information would be appreciated. lelongcarabine

The 30 American, that I knew, was simply a small primer pocket 30-30 Win. Federal made the brass and IBS Hunter class shooters quickly came up with a number of different wildcats, based on this brass. Among them the 30 Aardvark. As this brass was rimmed, the shooter had to turn the rims off and cut an extractor groove so the case could be used in a PPC or .473 boltface. Frank McKee held the IBS 100 yd Hunter class record with the 30 Aardvark for many years.
I see some of the brass for sale occasionally and, it usually fetches a premium price as it has been discontinued for years.

Thanks DocED! I have a reamer print from JGS and am planning on assembling an offhand rifle on a Peregrine falling block action. The original brass is not needed but loading dies are a necessity ;D. I am considering this round, modified, with the original rim included in the design. For my purpose, the ammo can be made (as you already know) from standard .30/30's or .375 Winchester's. The print looks as if all the sloppy dimensions are taken care of! Thanks for this information! Now if I can just find the dies ;). lelongcarabine
