30/338 lapua

A 300 Norma Mag will be very close to the 30/338 Lapua without all the brass forming headaches. There is some loading data in Lapua reloading manuals.

I have one.. 30-338 lapua AI... I dont think I would do another... not that its a bad caliber.. its just not very efficient and really doesnt gain THAT much velocity.. or as much as people think... (at least running with real world SAFE pressures)

I would do 308 Baer, 300 Norma.. heck even 300 RUM.. I am CONSIDERING doing a 30-378 wby imp. not that it would be anymore efficient than the lapua.. but honestly.. just something to tinker with...

I have a 30-338 lapua improved and would not do the improved part again but would stay away from a belted round and would not use anything that would not be compatible with lapua brass. It is too much work ( especially with turned necks ) to get brass up and running to lose that same brass to loose primer pockets after 5 firings. Plan on annealing after 5 or 6 firings if you want consistent headspace and neck tension.

I have a .300 Lapua that Greg Tannel built that is like new. Shoots excellant, safe queen. Will part with if you are looking for a great shooting LONGRANGE rifle. This thing is turnkey.

Could you please tell me more about your safe queen and what you would have to get out of it. Thank's..........Stock...Barrel...You know, ALL the stuff. And maybe a pic if it wouldn't be to much. I like the 30cal and play with a RUM quite a bit now.

The one that I have that Greg Tannel built produced a 2.316 " 3 shot break in group at 1056 yards. I did not shoot this group, the fella that had it built shot it. He built 2 at the same time and I ended up with this one when he finished load development basicly. Right after I bought it I shot a 3 shot 1.5 " group at 1056 yards. We had no camera on the day I shot the 1.5, but the orginal owner had a camera when he was breaking in the barrel. I have that picture, it used to be on Greg's site and Lilja's site. Some of you may have seen it , Mark is holding one of the loaded round's next to the group to show size. 34" custom taper 3 groove Lilja barrel with a Vias Muzzle brake.
